The Suns Have Committed To Pursuing A Trade Involving Jae Crowder.

Jae Crowder.

Multiple outlets say that Jae Crowder and the Phoenix Suns have mutually agreed for the veteran forward to skip the team's training camp, which begins on Monday, August 26. Crowder, who is 32, is in the final year of a three-year contract. This year, he will make $10.1 million.

Crowder attempted to clarify his side of the argument in a Twitter post published on Sunday. Crowder, who typically writes in all caps, said, "One must seek work where he is wanted... where he is required!" A lot of valuable lessons have been learned during the past two years, for which I am eternally grateful. I must apply the same level of effort and focus to the next task I face. To those who shut the door behind me, I am grateful. A return of 99 is expected.

Phoenix Suns

The defensive-minded Crowder may have issues with the Suns because fourth-year pro Cameron Johnson will be playing a larger role this season. Crowder responded to a tweet from a reporter in the Phoenix region on Friday about interesting things to watch at training camp by writing, "99 won't be there!" in reference to his jersey number. A few time after posting the tweet, Crowder erased it.

In his second year with the team, Crowder averaged 9.4 points and 5.3 rebounds in 67 games (all starts). The Suns made it all the way to the NBA Finals in his rookie year, when they were ultimately eliminated by the Milwaukee Bucks. In 60 contests, Crowder scored 10.2 points per game and grabbed 4.7 boards on average (42 starts).

In 11 years in the NBA, Crowder will be joining his eighth different squad.

He has played for the Dallas Mavericks, Boston Celtics, Cleveland Cavaliers, Utah Jazz, Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat, and Phoenix Suns over the course of 735 career games (406 starts), averaging 9.6 points and 4.3 rebounds.

Second, can we please get an official statement that Cameron Johnson has been named the Suns' starting power forward? Given the team's current dearth of viable alternatives, a lack of such an arrangement could signal an impending move.

The Works of Robert Sarver.

Some opposing players have already been asked about the Sarver scenario in Phoenix during media day interviews. Warriors star and Finals MVP Stephen Curry has been quoted as saying, "the outcome was precisely what should have happened." The reactions of Phoenix's players will be fascinating to watch - While Curry, an opponent player, is allowed to speak his mind, Suns players may feel limited by the fact that Sarver is still their employer.

D. A. "Deandre" Ayton.

Ayton's tenuous status with the franchise has faded into obscurity in the wake of the Crowder and Sarver plotlines. We can only hope that this continues the case, and that neither party harbours any ill will toward the other as a result of the contract talks or his benching at the end of last year's playoff debacle. Ayton's work ethic and preparation have been called into question, so it's likely that other issues with his game will also be scrutinised.
